At work
Gabriel was the first member of de Mellow & Co to become a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society. This achievement represents his dedication not only to furthering his own understanding, but also to ensuring his clients receive cutting-edge advice.
Gabriel is an expert in retirement planning and financial advice for business owners. His typical clients are local couples who own a business together, and are looking for advice with their pensions and investments and to gain an accurate understanding of their current financial position.
Gabriel advises in goals-based financial planning, Inheritance Tax planning, and aspects of exit planning including investment of exit proceeds.
At home
As one of five, Gabriel comes from a large, close-knit family and spends a lot of time across the coast visiting and assisting them.
Gabriel has recently moved house, so a lot of his time outside of work is spent on DIY and house projects. Despite this, Gabriel makes time to play the piano nearly every day. He plays a mixture of contemporary, classical, and pop pieces, in the style of a piano solo – and usually by ear!
Gabriel is also a powerlifter, which means he enjoys picking heavy things up and putting them down again. He has competed at a high level in this sport and would love to again, should the right competition come up.
Spotlight questions
The proudest moment of my career was:
Becoming a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society. This represents more than five years of hard work, continuous education and exams, and going above and beyond what is expected of a qualified adviser in the UK.
The things I love most about my job are:
Getting to meet people every day, hear their stories, their successes and hardships, and discuss ways in which I can help them with these. I also enjoy being in a role that challenges my technical skills and knowledge and constantly demands growth. Lastly, I love seeing the real output of my advice over years. Helping clients to achieve their goals, is very rewarding. A client once told me that I’m the only reason they retired early, due to the work we’ve done over the years.
The types of people I most enjoy working with are:
Business owners, typically a husband and wife combo who own a local business. Perhaps they’ve not given enough thought to life outside of the business in terms of wider financial planning, and would like to focus on building their personal wealth to achieve their own lifestyle and retirement goals and exit the business with funds to invest as part of this overall plan. They may need additional help with the business itself in terms of employee benefits, or even protection for themselves and employees.
Exit strategies may involve the referral to a service that is separate and distinct to those offered by St. James’s Place.
